Who We Are
During 2007 U Factor was developed by a very creative group of young carers who wanted a way of staying in contact and sharing information with other young carers in the Brisbane South area. The group, ranging in age from 12 - 19 years, met regularly to workshop the design and content of the website. The young people's design group named the website 'U Factor' - after playing around with the title 'care factor' they felt U Factor was more about reclaiming their identity as individuals whilst acknowledging their role as carers.
The young people who formed the U Factor design group are part of Young Carers Project (Brisbane South) - which is an Australian Government initiative that aims to support young people who are the main carer for a relative or friend who has an ongoing health issue, disability, drug/alcohol issue, or mental illness.
The Young Carers Project (Brisbane South) began in 2005 and supports young carers within the Brisbane South region – which includes the area south of the Brisbane River, east to the Redlands and Moreton Bay Islands, west to Forest Lake, and south to Drewvale.
The Young Carers Project (Brisbane South) is managed by FSG Australia - which is a not-for-profit community-organisation that works in partnership with people with a disability, people with a mental illness, people who are frail aged and their carers to provide services that make a positive difference in their lives.
